This is my grandma's signature home remedy for the treatment of cold, cough, throat pain and fever. Kashayam means a water decotion of a herbs or spices or mixed together. This kashayam serves as an excellent remedy to releive from cold. The mild pepper flavor and strong flavor imparted from ginger along with sweet taste from jaggery tastes divine and your kids will ask for more. Ingredients
Grated ginger - 3 tbsp
Pepper - 1 tsp
Cumin - 1 tsp
Cinnamon - 1
Cloves - 2
Turmeric pwd - 1/2 tsp
Raisins - 1 tsp
Basil or tulsi leaves
Tender neem leaves
Jaggery (optional ) - a small piece
Salt - 1/4 tsp
Instructions
1.
Heat 3 cups of water in a saucepan.
2.
Add cinnamon, cloves and allow to boil.
3.
Add grated ginger and stir.
4.
Add pepper, cumin and allow to boil.
5.
Add turmeric pwd, salt, raisins, jaggery (optional) and stir.
6.
Add fresh tender neem leaves and basil leaves.
7.
Let the kashayam boil for 6 to 8 mins in low flame.
8.
Turn off flame.
9.
Cover with lid and let the kashayam cool for 10 mins so the flavors get well infused.
10.
Strain the kashayam in cups.
11.
Healthy kashayam is ready.
