Ingredients
Toor dal - 1 & 1/2 cups
Turmeric pwd - 1/2 tsp
Oil - 1 tbsp
Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
Red chilli - 2 or 3
Grated garlic - 1 tsp
Grated ginger - 1 tsp
Sliced green chilli - 1
Onion - 1
Tomato - 1
Red chilli pwd - 1/2 tsp
Garam masala pwd - 1/2 tsp
Dried fenugreek leaves - 1/2 tsp
Hing / asafoetida pwd - a pinch
Curry & coriander leaves
Salt to taste
Instructions
1.
Wash and soak toor dal in water for 5 mins.
2.
Drain water and add the toor dal to pressure cooker.
3.
Add 2 cups of water and mix.
4.
Add salt, turmeric pwd and combine.
5.
Pressure cook for 4 whistles or until dal is cooked soft.
6.
Once the pressure goes off, open the lid and mash it.
7.
Set it aside.
8.
Heat 1 tbsp of oil in frypan.
9.
Add cumin seeds, red chilli and toss.
10.
Add grated garlic, ginger, green chilli, curry leaves and saute.
11.
Add sliced onions and saute until onions turn transculent.
12.
Add freshly chopped coriander leaves and tomato.
13.
Saute for a minute.
14.
Add turmeric pwd, red chilli pwd, dried fenugreek leaves, garam masala pwd and asafoetida pwd.
15.
Mix the masala well.
16.
Its time to add the cooked dal.
17.
Add 1/2 cup of water and adjust the thickness of the dal.
18.
Stir good and let it boil.
19.
Turn off flame.
20.
Add a dallop of butter and sprinkle freshly chopped coriander leaves.
21.
Flavorful delicious homemade Dal fry is ready.
