A very famous spicy tangy onion chutney recipe from Andhra cuisine. This lovely chutney makes a divine combo with idli, dosa, uttapam, pongal, chapati, upma, kichdi, etc. For preparing this chutney, coconut is not required and tastes great with tempting onion aroma. Ingredients
Gingely oil - 1 tbsp
Urad dal - 1 tbsp
Chana dal - 1 tbsp
Red chilli - 3 to 4
Onions - 2 to 3
Tomato - 1 big
Cioriander leaves
Salt to taste
To temper
Oil - 1 tsp
Mustard - 1/4 tsp
Cumin - 1/4 tsp
Split urad dal - 1/2 tsp
Hing or asafoetida pwd - a generous pinch
Salt to taste
Curry leaves
Instructions
1.
Heat gingely oil in frypan.
2.
Add urad dal and chana dal.
3.
Saute until golden.
4.
Add red chilli, sliced onions, tomato, coriander leaves, salt and saute.
5.
Cover and cook for a minute.
6.
Turn off flame and allow to cool.
7.
Add to blender and grind to smooth paste.
8.
Transfer to serving bowl.
9.
To temper, heat 1 tsp of oil in small frying pan.
10.
Add mustard, cumin, split urad dal, curry leaves, hing and saute.
11.
Once it starts spluttering, turn off flame.
12.
Add the tempering to chutney and mix.
13.
Healthy, spicy hot onion chutney is ready.
14.
It serves great along with idli, dosa, chapati, paratha, snacks, etc.
