Onion Bajji is one of the very popular tea time snack or an appetizer. It tastes irresistably tasty and crispy & is enjoyed throughout the country. Its our favorite evening snack and love to munch this delicious fritter when its raining outside. Also it makes a quick snack to serve for guests. The recipe is pretty simple to prepare at home. The sliced onions are soaked in spiced besan batter and then deep fried until golden. Check out the easy video recipe and enjoy homemade crispy onion bajji's. I bet you just can't stop with one:)

Ingredients

Onion - 2 big

Besan flour - 1 cup

Rice flour - 2 tbsp

Turmeric pwd - 1/4 tsp

Red chilli pwd - 1 tsp

Cumin pwd - 1/2 tsp

Soda pwd - a pinch

Hing / asafoetida pwd - 1/4 tsp

Ginger garlic paste - 1 tsp

Salt to taste

Oil to deep fry

Instructions

1.

Clean, peel off the skin of onion.

2.

Slice it to thin round pieces as shown in video.

3.

In a mixing bowl, add besan flour, rice flour, turmeric pwd, red chilli pwd, cumin pwd, soda pwd, ginger garlic paste, hing, salt and mix.

4.

Add enough water and mix it to smooth paste.

5.

The batter consistency should not be watery or too thin. It should be in flowing thick consistency. (refer above video) The consistency of the batter is very important to get perfect crispy bajji.

6.

Heat oil in frypan.

7.

Dip the onion slice in batter and drop it in hot oil.

8.

Keep the flame in medium and deep fry until both the sides of bajji are golden brown and crispy.

9.

Do not overcrowd the oil while frying bajjis. Try to drop 4 to 5 at a time. Approximately it will take some 4 mins to get the onions cooked inside the bajji in low medium flame.

10.

Drain the crispy bajji in tissue paper.

11.

Delicious homemade hot and crispy Onion bajjis are ready.

12.

Serve immediately with any chutney of your choice along with piping hot cup of coffee or tea.
