Sweet Appam is a traditional Festive recipe, prepared on special occasions...!! It is very easy to prepare and very sacred to the Lord for Pooja. For Thirukarthigai Deepam festival, we made this tasty sweet snack and Palkova, it came out delicious. Also Appam is quite common as a snack or accompaniment in South India. Since made with jaggery, its got a subdued sweet taste with very soft inside and crunchy outside. The tempting taste allows us to eat as many pieces as we want..! Try out this simple, delicious recipe & enjoy...!!
Ingredients
Wheat flour - 1 cup
Rice flour - 3 tbsp
Ripe Banana - 1 big
Scraped coconut schreds - 3 tbsp
Jaggery - ½ cup
Cardamom / elaichi pwd - ¼ tsp
Ghee - 2 tsp
Instructions
1.
In a wide bow, add wheat flour , rice flour and cardamom pwd.

Peel and slice bananas to small pieces.
3.
Add banana slices, scraped coconut shreds to the flour.
4.
Mix well.
5.
Now in a wok / kadai, take jaggery along with a cup of water.
6.
Boil with stirring, until the jaggery water thickens.
7.
When it is done, filter to remove impurities settled at bottom.
8.
Add this jaggery water to the flour.
9.
Mix it well , adding little water.
10.
The batter consistency should be a dosa batter consistency.

Allow it to remain for 15 minutes. Now the Appam batter is ready.

Take a paniyaram pan.
13.
Grease it with ghee.
14.
Drop the above batter to each of the holes with a small ladle.

Place it in the stove and heat it.
16.
Simmer after a minute.
17.
Once it is done on one side, just flip it with the help of the wooden stick, which comes with the paniyaram pan or a chop stick will also help.
18.
Once it turns golden brown, remove from heat.
19.
Repeat this for the rest of the mixture.
20.
Delicious sweet Appams ready to enjoy.
